I went to Apollo on 2nd Ave. They did a safety inspection along with the oil change and showed me what needed fixing. There wasn't any pressure to get the work done there and they seemed honest enough.

Thanks, I'm going to Discount auto in the morning. They have a special on right now, Oil, lube, filter, + other fluids & tire rotation: $35 for my V6.
And they have cheap flat repairs at $15.
We'll see how it goes in the tomorrow.

Just to clarify, licenced mechanics make $20-30 per hour on average. They are generally underpaid for all the training required, not to mention the thousands spent on tools etc.

Most people working in quick lube places are trained to do the job, but aren't necessarily car people or car enthusiasts. Different locations will give you different results obviously.

Uh hello dear, Discount Auto on Clark advertises an oil change for $19.95. It comes to $25 WHEN YOU ADD TAX. This is one heck of a deal. They are fast, polite, and don't try to upsell. No phoney engine flushes here. I will return.

Come on. The only honest mechanic/tech is a dead one, a close friend or family. The rest can and will rip you off.

The only solution is to learn how to service your own vehicle. Believe me, it is not rocket science. An internal combustion engine has been around for over a 100 years and hasn't really changed that much.

With the internet you could look up on how to perform most of the maintenance. There are step-by-step how to videos on youtube. An oil change is a piece of cake. If you are to dumb to learn how to do an oil change then you deserve to be ripped off by these shops.
